Our Capital Campaign to match NYSCA funds has been very successful, and we have matched the $279K grant. Construction to restore our beautiful building will begin later this year, and our dance program and other events will be held off-site.

As plans to renovate the historic building come to fruition and the Conservatory prepares to begin work this summer, TCFA is announcing a “Close the Gap” Drive. Fundraising will continue to cover areas not included in the initial grant proposal, specifically acoustic consultation and treatment and additional exterior work. The "gap" is estimated at $85,000.

For over 40 years Trumansburg Conservatory of Fine Arts has been a leader in advancing dance, music and the visual arts in our region. TCFA enriches our community through education, collaboration, performance and exhibition. To ensure our continued success, a strategic plan has been developed that includes the historic restoration of our home, a landmark Greek revival building, as well as improving accessibility and revitalizing our performance and exhibition space.

As a result of our planning efforts, the Conservatory has been awarded a matching grant of $279,000 from the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) to both restore and improve our celebrated building. This project will include:

  • Restoration of the exterior wood façade, doors and all historic details
  • Fully ADA-compliant outside entrance
  • Construction of an ADA-accessible restroom
  • Renovation of the lobby and main hall interior finishes and lighting
  • Restoration of the original windows
  • Foundation pointing and drainage
  • Safety and sustainability improvements

About the Campaign:

How much money will the project cost? How much do you need to raise?

The total project is estimated to cost $651K. We have committed grants and donations totaling $567K, including a major capital matching grant from the New York State Council for the Arts and a matching contribution from the Village of Trumansburg, and need to raise an additional $85K.

When will construction begin?

We are projecting to begin construction sometime in 2024, once our fundraising goals are met.

How long will construction last?

Construction is planned to last 6 to 9 months.

Will the building be closed for the entire length of the project?

Although the auditorium will be closed during construction, we expect to have limited use of the main office, music rooms and downstairs classroom (using the side entrance.)

Will the dance program and music lessons continue during construction?

We are currently looking for an alternate location for the dance and music programs with the goal of continuing the program during construction.
