TCFA will present a screening of the 1961 Italian science fiction film Battle of the Worlds, directed by Anthony Dawson. The film stars Claude Rains, Bill Carter, and Maya Brent.
A rogue planet—"The Outsider"— enters the Solar System and is on a collision course with Earth. When the Outsider takes up an orbit round Earth, an expedition is launched to make a close study of the new planet and to learn something of its underground base. The phantom planet begins spiraling inward toward the Earth, creating hurricanes and storms, and the beginning of the end appears to be near. A plan is hatched to launch an all-out attack against the planet in a race against time to save Earth from total destruction!
Phil Hardy describes the film as one of the “most humorous, inventive, stylish” films in 60’s Italian science fiction.
