Leaders in playing traditional Irish dance music, Traonach will present a concert at TCFA on Sunday, March 15, 7pm.
The Traonach line-up includes Ed McGowan, Mark Bickford, Scott Whitham, Harry Lawless, Tim Ball, and Cole Gruberth. Based in Ithaca, Traonach has come to be recognized widely as one of the finest bands playing Irish music at its straight-ahead best. The shared experience of the band members adds up to decades creating a tight, driving sound that has audiences tapping their feet and jigging in their seats—if not dancing outright. Deeply rooted in tradition, Traonach is equally committed to honoring the wild energy and beautiful soul at the heart of this extraordinary music.
The band has played in memorable places, including the Grassroots Festival of Music and Dance, and with notable companions, including such greats as Tommy Makem. Along the way they’ve appeared in concert halls, small bars, an Atlantic City casino and at the International Sheep Dog Trials. Every Tuesday night, some or all of them anchor the local Irish music session at the Chapter House in Collegetown.
